GREEN UP OUR PLANET

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AND INFORMATION

“The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago.
The second best time is today,”

GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME

ONE AREA THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE WASTE RESOURCES
IS IN THAT LITTLE GREEN PATCH THEY CALL A LAWN.

I USED TO KEEP MY LAWN AT THE NORMAL HEIGHT CUTTING EVERY WEEK.
I FOUND THAT I HAD TO WATER IT AT LEAST AS OFTEN
TO KEEP IT FROM DRYING OUT AND TURNING BROWN.

AFTER A WET SPRING THE GRASS WAS SO HIGH
I HAD TO RAISE THE LAWNMOWER ON ITS WHEELS TO ABOUT 4".

NEXT TIME I CUT I LEFT IT AT THAT HEIGHT AND CONTINUED CUTTING IT LONG.
AFTER A LONG DRY SPELL I NOTICED THE LAWN WAS LOOKING GOOD
WITH NO BROWN SPOTS AT ALL AND I HADN'T WATERED IT ALL SUMMER.

THERE ARE THE USUAL WEEDS COMMON TO LAWNS BUT I DO NOTHING WITH THEM.
I HAVE FOUND THAT LEAVING THE GRASS LONGER HELPS

CHOKE OUT THE WEEDS, NOT KILLING THEM BUT RETARDING THEIR GROWTH.
WHEREAS WITH THE GRASS KEPT SHORT THE WEEDS HAD ALL THE ROOM THEY SEEMED TO NEED.
SO BY CUTTING MY LAWN LONGER AND ONLY BI-WEEKLY
I USE LESS ENERGY (FUEL), NO WATERING, NO FERTILISER AND NO HERBICIDES.

AND IT LOOKS MUCH HEALTHIER.
ANOTHER PLUS IS THAT I HAVE NOTICED MORE LOCAL URBAN WILDLIFE CALLING MY YARD HOME.
IT ALL SEEMS TO MAKE SENSE, DOESN'T IT ?
DO YOU REALLY NEED A LAWN YOU CAN PUTT ON ?
